Brackenfell house goes viral with beautiful Christmas light display [photos]

Two Brackenfell homeowners are looking to bring the festive spirit back in full swing after they decorated what has been dubbed the most ‘lit’ house on the block…and maybe even in the whole of Cape Town.

According to KFM, Rick van der Galien and his partner decided two years ago to put the cheer back into Christmas and decorated their house in Brackenfell with an array of Christmas lights for everyone to enjoy.

It is said that the lights get switched on every night from 20:00 and are available for viewing until 22:00 (in order to comply with the current curfew that is in place). It is free of charge but donations for their local animal shelter is welcome.

On Facebook, Rick said: “Bigger and Better than last year…16 Dennegeur street, Brackenfell. We have a candy floss and popcorn machine as well as a few other extra things this year. All donations will go to animal shelters again. Hope to see you there.”

A beautiful display of Christmas lights

Rick explained that it takes about two weeks and 5 000 cable ties later to get it all done. The lights are light-emitting diode (LED) – so they do not use a lot of electricity.

“We started last year with all the lights…we had about 2km of lights on…it went viral on Facebook and social media and so we decide to go bigger,” he told Carl Wastie.

He also said that there are so many lights that they light up the whole street.

“You boys have outdone last year’s magnificent display,” said one social media user. “Bravo and thank you for your incredible hard work.”
