The countdown to the Global Citizen Festival has officially begun, as Beyoncé prepares for a show-stopping performance in Jozi.

Don’t freak out, but there are only two Sundays left before Beyoncé lands in Johannesburg to headline the Global Citizen Festival 2018. Fans are already at fever pitch, and they were buoyed by some exciting developments on social media this week.

Members of Beyoncé’s team – including Director of Philanthropy and Corporate Relations for the BeyGOOD Foundation, Ivy McGregor – shared a photo of themselves in Sandton, underneath the Nelson Mandela statue. They arrived in the country with little under three weeks left to prepare for the showpiece event.

Fans had further cause to celebrate when Bey’s publicist – Yvette Noel-Schure – shared that photo on her Instagram story. The developments are seen as fairly significant to the Beyhive, who were worried that their idol may have cancelled on us.

When Beyoncé met Madiba

On recent global tours, Mzansi has been ignored by the former Destiny’s Child singer. Her most recent appearance on these shores came in 2004 when she brought the house down in Cape Town for the Mandela 46664 concerts.

So, Beyonce’s people are here. But it’s not just the queen of pop we’ve got to look forward too: If you haven’t seen the full line-up yet, where on earth have you been?

News of the festival – organised in honour of Madiba’s centenary year – first broke in June, sending South Africans into raptures. It’s set to bring together both local and international stars. By the way, when we say stars, we are talking about ones of interstellar proportions:
