A Saudi Arabian football fan who quipped ‘Where is Messi?’, has thrown his support behind Argentina at the Fifa World Cup finals.

A Saudi Arabian fan who shaded Argentina player Lionel Messi over his lack of play, back in the group stages of the Fifa World Cup, has been forced to eat his words.

Argentina is set to face off against France in the finals, which take place on Sunday, 19 December. Argentina beat Croatia to secure a spot at the finals, whilst France fended off Morocco.

‘WHERE IS MESSI?’ VIDEO GOES VIRAL

In a clip that went viral earlier this month and became a meme-worthy moment that many fans recreated- the Saudi man poked fun at Messi after his national team beat the South American stars 2-1 in the Group C stage.

Following Argentina’s unexpected defeat, the fan interrupted a live news broadcast outside the Qatar stadium. “Where is Messi?” he said of the famous soccer star. The moment went viral on Twitter with many football fans seeing it as criticism of the Argentine captain.

SUPPORTING ARGENTINA

But Argentina’s defeat of Croatia this week to secure a spot in the finals. And whilst his own country was knocked out of the competition weeks ago, the Saudi man surprisingly switched teams to support Argentina.

Speaking to another reporter, the man said: “Where is Messi? I am the Saudi guy who made this iconic in the World Cup, but today I’m supporting Argentina.”

The man added: “I promised my friends from Argentina that if they reached the finals, I would support you.”

But just as he caught the world’s attention before, he added in conclusion: “Vamos, Argentina! But… Where’s Messi? From Saudi Arabia.”
