The annual Starfish Foundation British 10k is back

This iconic run is the ideal opportunity to get fit while experiencing some of London’s amazing sites and it’s also a chance to raise valuable funds for Starfish Greathearts Foundation.

The annual Starfish Foundation

The vitality British 10k run is back, on Sunday, July 15th, 2018. The event takes place in the heart of London, allowing runners to witness awe-inspiring landmarks such as the London Eye, Trafalgar Square and Westminster – all on closed roads and with a very festive atmosphere.

Starfish is looking for runners to help improve the lives of South African children left orphaned or vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Over 15,000 children were last year through their healthcare, education and child protection programmes, providing life, hope and opportunity.

Starfish runners aim to raise £150 each – a fundraising pack containing excellent tips and ideas to help you reach your target, a Starfish running vest, finish line refreshments and the loudest cheers en-route are all provided.

Money raised will go towards helping families in South Africa experiencing the same difficulties as the Myeni family, which earlier this year was reached by Starfish.

The Myeni family is headed by 74-year-old Gogo Thadie. She lives with her three grandchildren Kgabu, Solomon and Siyanda in a four-room house. Thadie has HIV/AIDS and provides for the family with her pension. She is wise in food gardening skills and able to produce fresh vegetables from her garden for extra income. Her boys were enrolled in our partner community programme to access psychosocial support to help deal with the loss of their parents, as well as sports, health and homework clubs. Thadie has also been able to access the Family Matters Programme which works to improve relationships between caregivers and their children and has expressed her gratitude for the support she has received for herself and her family.
