KwaZulu-Natal floods – AVOID these roads

Road users have been urged to avoid THESE ROADS due to heavy flooding and reports of some roads caving in due to the SEVERE rainfall

The SA Weather Service has issued Orange level 9 and level 5 warnings for floods in KwaZulu-Natal today, 12 February. 

Road users have been urged to avoid several roads.

ORANGE LEVEL 9 AND LEVEL 5 WARNINGS ISSUED

The tropical low along the coast of KwaZulu-Natal will unleash heavy rainfall tonight and tomorrow morning.

This could cause widespread flooding in the northern interior of KwaZulu-Natal and the coast and surrounding areas.

Severe impacts may hit the northern coastline tomorrow morning.

Impacts:

  • Widespread flooding will inundate settlements and roads, causing damage to property and infrastructure.
  • Disruption to traffic flow due to major roads being flooded or closed.
  • Communities may be cut off and inaccessible
  • Danger to life due to fast and deep flowing water

Avoid these roads 

Road users have been urged to avoid the following roads.

  • Bottom Argyle Road
  • N2S and N2N
  • Ridge Road going towards over port city near coastlands huge pothole, road looks like going to cave in
  • NCR flooded just before N2 I/C E/B
  • Waterlogged roads around Sea cow Lake- under the bridge at KZN Oils
  • Entrance to Temple Road
  • Outside 454 Sea Cow Lake Road
  • Road caving in on Ridge Road just past coastlands and heading towards the Atrium.
  • Road coming from 45th down to Sydenham heights 
  • Offramp to M25 Kwamashu heavily flooded (North Bound)
  • Quarry road flooded exercise caution
  • Major flooding in Alpine Road, all the way up from Henry Road to the bottom.
  • Hansdettman off-ramp to M7
