TSHWANE CURRENTLY WITHOUT A MAYOR

Tshwane is still without a mayor after the resignation of Cope’s Murunwa Makwarela last week.

The multi-party coalition left the council meeting after speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana refused to remove two former Action SA councillors from proceedings following their exit on Friday.

Two councillors, Mandla Mhlana, and Mpho Baloyi have been accused of not queuing the party line by voting for Makwarela.

“It is suspected that allowing these councillors to vote was an important component in the plan of the ANC and EFF. This was to have their candidate elected today to the position of mayor of Tshwane and to coordinate this along with the ANC’s march to the council chamber,” Coalition spokesperson Cornè Mulder said.

ACTION SA TO HEAD TO COURT OVER NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION

Action SA National Chairperson Michael Beaumont has confirmed that the party will head to court to contest the decision to postpone Monday’s special council meeting.

The meeting was called to table a motion of no confidence in the council speaker. Tshwane council speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana postponed the meeting. He said the motion failed to meet the minimum requirements for it to be tabled.

Beaumont said they part sees the postponing as “another ploy from the minority parties to prevent the majority from governing”.

“We will be planning litigation, it is very clear that we need to go to the courts of our country. This is not the end of the road and it will continue even tomorrow and we have to fight it.
