Taxi crash in Dobsonville kills one, leaving eight injured

The loaded taxi was the only vehicle involved in the crash, which left one person dead and eight other passengers injured.

On Friday morning there was a taxi crash in Dobsonville which left one person dead and eight others injured.

TAXI DRIVER FLED THE SCENE

Gauteng traffic police are searching for the taxi driver who fled the scene of the deadly crash. Spokesperson Obed Sibasa said the taxi was not roadworthy at the time of the crash. According to Sibasa, the driver of the taxi fled the scene of the crash.

“Gauteng traffic police and other authorities are dealing with a single vehicle fatal crash on Alias Motswaledi opposite dumping site in Dobsonville, Braamfisherville. A fully-loaded, unroadworthy taxi, driver speeding, lost control of the taxi and collided with an object,” says Sibasa.

TAXI CRASH KILLS ONE PERSON

“One passenger died on the scene and eight sustained moderate injuries, the driver of the taxi fled the scene. According to witnesses, the driver was driving recklessly from Dobsonville mall. Police are on the manhunt for the driver.”

ALSO IN DOBSONVILLE

In another Dobsonville case, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) arrested two police officers from Dobsonville on charges of kidnapping and extortion.

The arrests happened after four police officers drove to Payneville in Springs on Friday, where they were supposed to search a suspect’s property. The police officers arrested the suspect and confiscated money to the value of R35 000, gold, measuring scales, and 25 litres of acidic mercury.

The officers allegedly demanded more money from the suspect, while he was in the van, which he did not have at the time. They asked him to call his friends to help him raise the requested amount of money.

Ipid spokesperson, Lizzy Suping said that the two police officers were arrested on Friday 17 February.
