JOBURG WATER SPOKESPERSON ON THE MATTER

Spokesperson of Joburg Water, Nombuso Tshabalala says the system improved overnight, as residents were experiencing water outages.

“Since opening the reservoir to 100%, the entity has managed to sustain capacity. We experienced a positive trajectory in the last 12 to 18 hours and will continue to monitor the system. If the same positive patterns continue, with no interruptions to the system, normal operations should resume by Wednesday.”

According to Tshabalala, the Brixton reservoir can be kept open overnight.

“In the last 24 hours, the system has enjoyed an average flow of 2600 kilolitres of water inflows per hour, which meant that the Brixton reservoir could be kept open overnight.”

17 TANKERS TEMPORARILY PUT IN PLACE

Temporary solutions have been put in place to make sure that residents have access to water. On Saturday, Joburg Water deployed 17 mobile water tankers to residents as they continue to have water outages.

The utility registered steady improvement at Crown Gardens reservoir that left thousands of residents without water in many suburbs last week.

“I have noted with concern communication from Rand Water indicating continued service interruptions after a power outage affected the pipeline network at the Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant earlier this week,” said Joburg Mayor Thapelo Amad, as previously reported.

While Rand Water’s bulk pumping has fully recovered, Joburg Mayor said the local water systems battle the knock-on effect and reservoirs are currently at critically low levels.
