The Hawks have arrested four suspects after a drug lab was uncovered in Benoni, Gauteng. Manufacturing tools were found along with R3 million worth of the Cat drug.

A drug lab has been found in Benoni before the Hawks arrested four suspects. The bust was made possible thanks to a tip-off on Tuesday.

BENONI DRUG LAB LEADS TO ARRESTS

The four arrested suspects were handcuffed by the Germiston Hawks serious organised crime investigation and K9 members.

According to the Hawks spokesperson Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu, the officers found their target after gathering inside intelligence on illegal substance whispers around Lakefield, which then directed the cops to the Benoni drug lab.

A search and seizure warrant was then acquired before the suspects were confronted with an unexpected raid.

“On Tuesday police pounced on four suspects allegedly processing illegal drugs suspected to be Cat with an estimated value of R3m,” said Mulamu.

FOUR SUSPECTS ARE AGED 23 TO 42

The four suspects who are understood to be between the ages of 23 and 42, will open in the local court for dealing in illegal substances after getting caught in the drug lab in Benoni.

“Four suspects aged between 23 and 42 were charged with dealing in drugs. They are expected to appear in the Benoni magistrate’s court on Friday,” Malumu concluded.

Meanwhile, in the Western Cape, police said a 51-year-old man had been arrested after he was found in possession of drugs worth R5 million in Mossel Bay, in the Western Cape.

According to police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie, the discovery of the drugs was made on a bus en route to Cape Town on Friday.

Pojie said they received information about a number of suspicious boxes in the bus and found a large quantity of mandrax tablets.

“The Inspector noticed a suspicious amount of sealed boxes in the luggage compartment of the bus and decided to do a proper inspection when the bus stopped at Voorbaai, in Mossel Bay.
