The two councillors that were fired are Mandla Mhlana and Mpho Baloyi.

ACTION SA CHAIRPERSON ON THE DECISION

Action SA’s Chairperson, Michael Beaumont says that the result of a polygraph test taken earlier this month has led to the decision of dismissing the two councillors.

“The investigation into the councillors has been ongoing for weeks and the councillors also voted for the ATM candidate for speaker, Councillor Ndzwanana, on 13 March,” Beaumont said.

“It is further believed that Baloyi provided the location of the polygraph tests of 6 March to the EFF. He was at least partially responsible for the disruption that occurred on that day.” On 7 March, Action SA vowed to lay criminal charges against three EFF members. They allegedly disrupted a lie detector test on some of their councillors.

Action SA was doing the tests in an attempt to determine which councillors of the multi-party coalition government broke rank during last week’s Tshwane mayoral vote. This is because most of the coalition partners agreed to vote for the DA’s Cilliers Brink.

Brink has been endorsed by the multiparty coalition partners, who hoped to have him elected at the first available opportunity. In a statement released, coalition partners said they support the DA’s choice of candidate.

TWO COUNCILLORS FAILED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS

Beaumont says the two councillors failed to answer questions on whether they were offered bribes to vote against the party line.

“The investigation did not rely solely upon polygraph tests, having said this, both councillors failed on two separate occasions on both the question of voting against the coalition and being offered rewards for doing so.”

He added that no councillor in Action SA will be allowed to “betray the mandate on which they were elected to serve their residents.”
