Do you have lots of friends coming over for a party this weekend? Making great food is always important but not everybody eats everything. Tacos are a great way for people to pick and choose what they want to load onto their tacos. These tacos with beef mince and re-fried beans are a Mexican classic that’s easy to prepare and enjoy with a large group of people. Get creative and make your own with hard or soft shell tacos.

Tacos with beef mince suggestions

The seasoning is important here and you can make the beef mince spicier with some freshly chopped chilies. If you want to make a build-your-own table, have some fresh ingredients like chopped raw onions, tomatoes, spring onion and even some cheese. Soft taco shells should be toasted as well. Re-fried beans add a real extra level of deliciousness and goes great next to the hot sauces and condiments. Load your tacos alongside your friends to the best experience.

Tacos with beef mince recipe

Ingredients

  • Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp 2 chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp 1 cumin

  • 1 tbsp 1 paprika

  • 1 tsp 1 garlic powder

  • 1 tsp 1 onion powder

  • 1 tsp 1 oregano

  • 1 tsp 1 black pepper

  • 1 tsp 1 salt

  • Taco filling
  • 500 g 500 beef mince (or you can use chicken breasts)

  • 1 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves 2 garlic, finely minced

  • 1 tbsp 1 taco seasoning mix

  • 2 tbsp 2 tomato paste

  • ½ cup ½ tomato sauce

  • 1 can 1 corn, whole kernels

  • fresh coriander to garnish

  • Refried beans
  • 1 can 1 black beans or pinto beans

  • 1 1 garlic finely chopped

  • 1 tbsp 1 oil

  • 1 tsp 1 cumin

  • juice of 1 lime

Method

  • Seasoning
  • Combine all the ingredients and store them in a jar.
  • Taco filling
  • Fry the onion and the garlic until soft. 
  • Add mince and cook till brown. 
  • Add a tablespoon of taco seasoning and combine.
  • Add tomato paste and tomato sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add corn and cook for a further 5 minutes.
  • Layer your taco with a scoop of meat filling, fresh lettuce and grated cheese on top. Serve with re-fried beans, sour cream and tomato salsa.
  • Refried beans
  • To make the refried beans, heat garlic in a pan with oil. Add the tin of beans and cumin and cook for five minutes.
  • Mash with potato masher or fork until soft. Squeeze lime juice over. Serve with tacos.
