There are few things as delicious as something sweet or crunchy. Did you know that you can have the best of both worlds? Peanuts are one of the world’s most versatile foods and peanut brittle is just one of the ways of using them. Our Homemade Peanut Brittle is incredibly easy to make and works as a great snack and even as a gift if you wrap it up in a pretty tin or wrapping.

This Homemade Peanut Brittle is made in two stages on the stove and then left to cool. If you want to make more, the recipe is easily adjusted. The ingredients for this recipe include; white sugar, syrup, peanuts salt, water, butter and bicarbonate soda. You can make the peanut brittle as thick or thin as you like depending on the size of your baking tray. This deliciously sweet snack is perfect for a small snack or family gift, like a housewarming.

Homemade Peanut Brittle Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • ½ cup syrup

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1 cup peanuts

  • 2 tbsp butter, softened

  • 1 tsp bicarbonate soda

  • oil for spatula

Method

  • Grease a large cookie sheet or baking tray. Set aside.
  • In a large saucepan add sugar, syrup, salt, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently for 8-12 minutes or until sugar is dissolved and mixture comes to a full boil.
  • Add butter; continue cooking, stirring occasionally for 15 minutes or until a small amount of the mixture dropped into ice water forms a hardball.
  • Stir in peanuts. Remove from heat and add bicarbonate of soda.
  • Immediately, pour the mixture on to the greased baking tray and using the oiled spatula, spread into a rectangle shape.
  • Allow cooling. Once cool, break into pieces and enjoy!
