While some of the events have already kicked off, with the first matches of the softball and women’s football competitions starting 22 July, people can watch how the action unfolds via The Washington Post’s live blog, or on SuperSport if you’re a DStv subscriber.

According to 2OceansVibe, coverage of the Games will include eight 24-hour channels on DStv, so it’s worth getting up to speed with SuperSport‘s various channels and what will feature on each.

“Apart from the multi-channel offering on SuperSport, the Grandstand channel will be the gateway to the very best content that Tokyo has to offer. The Grandstand feed will focus on the most important events on the go, but also cross-promote other events to assist viewers to navigate the Olympics. And should Grandstand switch from one venue to the other, it will advise where viewers can continue to watch the original event. Apart from the live-action, SuperSport’s coverage will include daily Olympic segments, athlete interviews, plus detailed wraps, features, profiles, historic content and scene-setters.”

Seeing as Tokyo is seven hours ahead of South Africa, the SuperSport Blitz channel will share daily updates from 19:00 to 20:00.

Existing channels

Olympic events will also be broadcast on existing genre channels. Therefore, if you would like to watch the Sevens Rugby, go to the rugby channel, and the same for golf and tennis.

Other channels

South Africans can also experience the Olympics on the SABC sport channel on all of the SABC TV Channels, SABC Radio Stations and online.
