SHOKI MMOLA RETURNS TO THE STAGE

The former Skeem Saam actress Shoki Mmola revealed on her Instagram account that she’s happy to have joined the second superb installation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play titled Ruined after exiting the role of Celia.

Mmola, who’s nominated in the Best Actress category at this year’s SAFTAs also hinted she’s playing the role of Salima in the play, which will debut at the Market Theatre on 9 August.

“Here: Ruined. A beastly body of work. There are times when I completely doubt my empathy towards Salima… Simply because I fear what I may find if I completely peel off the layers. She leaves me completely vulnerable, and I fear vulnerability. I also fear doing her injustice because this piece, forces me to take a journey that boldly amplifies the shadows on our backs. All I ask, for now, is an opportunity to access Courage, and tell Salima’s story, with Honesty and Care. Thank you @markettheatre @clivemathibe @lynnnottage. I submit.”

The actress told Drum Magazine last month (July) that she was already working on new production and thanked everyone who has grown to love her role on Skeem Saam and appreciated the support.
