Real Housewives of Durban fans were not impressed in the least with the reunion episode which aired on 30 April on Showmax as it failed to live up to the hype leading up to the season “grand finale” of the feuding Durban housewives.

The reunion episodes of many reality shows are the most anticipated episode as the drama that builds up throughout the season is usually ironed out then for all to see. However, fans were of the opinion that the Real Housewives of Durban reunion “fell flat”.

The reunion show was hosted by TV and radio personality Phat Joe and took place in Johannesburg. The popular reality series has been serving up drama week after week, trending on Twitter every Friday after an episode aired. From “side chicks to tribalism”, the series had viewers hooked.

After announcing that she is quitting the show last week, Kgomotso Ndungane was absent from the reunion episode. Having earned herself the reputation of the “mean girl” of the group, Kgomotso seems to be the girl everyone loves to hate.

As much as some did not like her, many felt like her presence was needed for the reunion episode. Social media personality Lasizwe Dambuza was one of the fans that felt like the episode fell flat because of Kgomotso’s absence.

When asked if she would be returning for season two, Ndungane said to IOL:

“No decision has been made to produce a season two, but my goal was always to do season one and I had not set a goal for myself beyond that yet.”

One of the most talked about moments of the show is Ayanda Ncwane being accused of tribalism after viewers took offense to a conversation between Ncwane and Laconco about Kgomotso. Ayanda Ncwane said that Kgomotso is not black, she is Tshwane. This resulted in her being labelled as a “tribalist”.

This is most likely the reason why Kgomotso has decided to leave Real Housewives of Durban. She said that the tribalism remarks were made on a personal level and were derogatory.

“In South Africa, we live in a very diverse country. A country where we have come far as a nation… The last thing you need going forward as a nation is to also be subjected to tribalism,” said Kgomotso according to The Citizen

“You shouldn’t be saying things like that because they become very offensive to South Africa as a whole. Because you show, you are not including other tribes or ethnic groups in your thinking,” she added.
