‘House of Zwide’ actress Shalate Sekhabi is living her dream

Actress Shalate Sekhabi, who plays Shoki in e.tv’s fashion drama ‘House of Zwide’ says joining the show has been a dream come true.

Pretoria-born actress Shalate Sekhabi, who plays Nkosi Zwide’s girlfriend Shoki in e.tv’s second-most watched telenovela House of Zwide says the past year has been a roller.

SHALATE SEKHABI ON JOINING ‘HOUSE OF ZWIDE’  

The Pretoria-born actress Shalate Sekhabi, whose character Shoki has become a fan-favourite on the fashion show House of Zwide tells Daily Sun that her life has changed since joining the show a year ago.  

“The past year has been a roller coaster. It’s been interesting, and fun and there’s been a lot of growth as an actress and just as a person in the industry. “  

Sekhabe adds that she’s balancing work with school and is currently doing her honours degree.  

“It’s been hectic. But it’s been really good, a dream come true.”  

The 22-year-old actress adds that she’s been acting since a young age even though she’s only blowing up now.   

According to the publication, her father Aubrey Sekhabi is the artistic director at the State Theatre in Tshwane.  

“My love for acting started when I was 12. This was after my dad got me a small role in a short film. Although my character was shorter, I enjoyed it and realised that I wanted to do more.”  

She adds that she was soon in another film and had a longer role and that’s when she got into acting.

PLAYING SHOKI IN THE E.TV SHOW  

Sekhabe’s character Shoki is in a love triangle with Funani Zwide’s (Vusi Kunene) son Nkosi (Wanda Zuma), who’s got a baby mama Mampho (played by The Wife’s Gaisang Noge).  

Fans of the show are protective of Shoki because she’s innocent and doesn’t play dirty like Mampho who will do anything to win Nkosi’s heart  

She tells viewers of the show that they should expect a lot of drama as people will be paying for their sins in the second season.  

“There will be a lot of tears and emotions.”
