Popular actress Siphesihle Ndaba – who plays a gangster called Mazet in Gomora has been trending since her character started walking again after getting shot by Don, paralysed and wheelchair-bound last year.

Ndaba’s character touched viewers’ hearts as she’s taught them the importance of telling stories about people living with disabilities.

Actress Siphesihle Ndaba recently opened up about her Gomora character Mazet who became disabled after getting shot by Don (Israel Matseke-Zulu).

Ndaba told Daily Sun that there’s a lot of responsibility placed on actors who portray any disability as they have to do their research to avoid disrespecting people who are disabled.

“It was my duty to go out and interview people living with disabilities. I had to sit with them and let them tell me about things, like how do they get in and out of the wheelchair, so I can authentically tell the story.”

She also tells the publication that stories about disabled people need to be told more.

“There are so many people living with disabilities in this country. I think we need to tell these stories more so people become aware of them and until it becomes normal to have these conversations.”

The star adds that her character is on the verge of rediscovering herself and viewers will experience that in the coming weeks and months.

“Being in the wheelchair has softened her. It’s made her self-conscious and she’s a bit more timid. She’s finding her voice again and finding herself again.”

The Soweto-born star also tells the People’s Paper that she’s working on exciting projects besides acting in the Mzansi Magic telenovela.

“I am working on a couple of things outside Gomora right now. I can’t say much but they’re coming soon and I’m really excited.
