‘MAZET IS REDISCOVERING HERSELF’: SIPHESIHLE NDABA

Actress Siphesihle Ndaba recently opened up about her Gomora character Mazet who became disabled after getting shot by Don (Israel Matseke-Zulu).

Ndaba told Daily Sun that there’s a lot of responsibility placed on actors who portray any disability as they have to do their research to avoid disrespecting people who are disabled.

“It was my duty to go out and interview people living with disabilities. I had to sit with them and let them tell me about things, like how do they get in and out of the wheelchair, so I can authentically tell the story.”

She also tells the publication that stories about disabled people need to be told more.

“There are so many people living with disabilities in this country. I think we need to tell these stories more so people become aware of them and until it becomes normal to have these conversations.”
