INSIDE GUGU’S EXIT

A source from the Mzansi Magic telenovela Gomora told Daily Sun that Velile Makhoba’s character Gugu had come to an end and her role was no longer relevant.

“Her on-screen family, which includes her father Phumlani Ndaba (played by Uzalo star Buyile Mdladla) and her on-screen sister Buhle (played by Blood&Water actress Ama Qamata) are no longer there.”

The mole adds that the writers loved Makhoba and were prepared to keep her but it became difficult to screen her in between characters.

“Her character had become redundant as a result they had to let her go. But they were careful not to kill. Her exit was strategic. She might come back because according to her script, she’s relocating to KZN to her grandparents.”

VELILE MAKHOBA ON ‘GOMORA

The actress revealed in an interview with the People’s Paper in 2021 that she had one year contract with the Seriti Films’ telenovela and confirms her exit.

“I had a one-year contract with Gomora starting from December last year (2021). Gugu’s role had to be terminated because I was no longer serving the purpose.”

Makhoba adds that Qamata’s character was no longer there and Gugu’s entire family was no longer there and that leaving Gomora was a bittersweet moment for her.

This was her first TV break and she had an opportunity to act alongside great talents.

“I don’t take this opportunity lightly and I’ll always be grateful for it. I’ve also learned so much from the cast and I do not doubt that one day I’ll work with some of them.”

The young actress adds that she’s already landed a few roles and she’s been lucky enough to find another acting job after Gomora.

“Unfortunately I’m not allowed to talk about it, but I’m already shooting with the cast.”
