Actor Ayanda Daweti has opened up about acting and how he navigates being someone in the public eye. The Gomora actor says he is not someone that takes a moment to appreciate the work he does on TV. He never watches himself because he is very critical.

“I am too critical of myself, so I do not watch. I only watch the first few episodes of a project to see how it looks, then I stay away. Otherwise, I find myself noticing how I should have done certain things differently and that doesn’t help because it is already on TV,” he told Drum Magazine.

ACTORS AYANDA WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH

The publication says unlike most people who have people they’d like to share a set with, Ayanda does not have people like that.

“You see, acting is not like music. With music you can make a song and say I wish I had a Zahara on this track and she would add this element. But with acting, you feed off each other and you have an energy on set and that, so I do not necessarily look forward to working with certain people,” he told the publication.

“For me, it does not matter whether you are new or old in the industry. When we have to work together, what is important to me is that we gel, and we deliver. It is a matter of being skilled,” Ayanda says.

INSPIRING VILLAGE BOYS

The 32-year-old actor says he enjoys speaking his mother tongue on Gomora. .

“I know the language is not my choice, it is who the character is, but I love being able to speak IsiXhosa, so that village boys like me can see someone who looks and sounds like them on TV and aspire to be better, knowing that nothing is out of reach,” he said.
