‘Durban Gen’ actress Nelisiwe and acting like she has stroke

Nelisiwe Sibiya has been lauded by viewers of ‘Durban Gen’ for her growth in her craft. She was heavily criticised when the show started.

Actress Nelisiwe Sibiya has has revealed what it took for her to nail her character’s stroke scenes on e.yv’s medical drama Durban Gen.

The 30-year-old took to he Instagram to share that she has never been challeneged as much as she has been while playign the character of Mbali Mthethwa on Durban Gen. She said she felt like she had stroke even in real life.

NELISIWE CHALLENGED BY STROKE SCENES

The “mama kaBafana” hitmaker said she had a lot of pressure for the stroke scenes, “The pressure I had shooting these Stroke scenes were so intense that I felt like I really had it. Remember Acting takes so much from a person, mentally, emotionally and physically. It was a lot shame I won’t lie and it was painful staying in one position from the face,mouth, the whole arm and leg”.

She however is grateful for the opportunity to portray a role like that and to be allowed to grow and learn in her craft.

“(background story, Dr Mbali still denies ukusebenzela abantu abadala and practice being a sangoma even though esethwasile. Abantu abadala “ancestors” who gave her this gift wants her to have indumba and practice ubungoma and help people traditionally so for them to make her accept they made her have a stroke),” she explained.

Nelisiwe added, “But ke we did it and I am grateful to my best team on @durbangen_etv@mavuso101@sabelo and played a huge role directing these. Ngyabonga to all the crew members and colleagues. Kancane kancane siyafunda to be the best. I am grateful for this journey of my life,” she said.

‘YOU HAVE GROWN’ – VIEWERS APPLAUD MBALI’S ACTING

When the character of Mbali was introduced to the viewers in October 2020 after Isipho: The Gift was canned, Nelisiwe’s acting was questione by viewers especially because she was known as a musician.

Three seasons down, viewers feels she has shown major improvement and continues to grow in her acting career. She has also won numerous acting awards for her acting which she says is good validation.
