OTTO NOBELA FELL IN LOVE WITH ACTING IN HIGH SCHOOL

The talented actor Otto Nobela, who plays the role of Pablo, a notorious gangster joined Scandal! in January as an old friend of Mdala (James Sithole) and Nhlamulo.

Speaking to Sunday World about his villainous character, Nobela says he first fell in love with acting while in high school.

He adds that he was influenced by his high school crush, who always told him she was going to rehearsals.

“When I got there, I found a group of guys who were in a community-based production. I was sold on what they were doing,” said Nobela.

He later attended workshops to improve his acting skills before he was spotted by Muvhango creator Duma Ndlovu, who offered him a chance to attend some of his workshops.

“I later found myself theatre where I did another two-year development programme. I received all my training at the South African State Theatre. I eventually got lucky and found myself being picked for the movie Matwetwe.

PLAYING PABLO IN ‘SCANDAL!’

The Scandal! actor Otto Nobela adds that he’s always been inspired by Gomora star Israel Matseke-Zulu, who normally plays the bad guy.

He joined the e.tv cast to reunite with Mdala and Nhlamulo’s (Mathews Rantsoma) and doesn’t care whether they are on good terms or not.

The star adds that he wanted to take the route of playing a bad guy as many actors prefer playing the good guy.

“I wanted to take his route but I believe many actors are gunning for the role of being the good guy. I then decided to try and chase villain roles, and I started studying Pablo Escobar, a Columbian drug kingpin [who was shot dead in December 1993].”

Sunday World reports that Nobela has also starred in Netflix’s popular series’ Queen Sono, The Brave Ones, Letters of hope, and Surviving Gaza.
