‘EVERYTHING IS TOO MUCH FOR MY SON SIYABONGA RADEBE’

The former Uzalo actor and TV personality Siyabonga Radebe spent the last two months in a psychiatric ward and was being treated for depression after quitting the show.

His mother Nomasonto Mthembu tells Daily Sun that her son feels cancelled and blocked by the entertainment industry.

“The things that are happening to him are difficult for him to handle. Everything is too much for my son. He’s been knocking on many doors in the acting world but they have been closed on him.

This led him to have to severe depression and be admitted to the hospital. Mthembu adds that staying at home for her son made the situation worse.

“Staying at home watching your parents go to bed hungry after they sent you to school and got you to graduate is not nice. Realising that you can’t help makes the situation worse. Siya had cars, but now he’s squatting in taxis as he’s not a superstar.”

WHY ACTOR QUIT ‘UZALO’

The ex-Uzalo actor Siyabonga Radebe’s mother Nomasonto Mthembu also tells Daily Sun that her son’s house is about to be repossessed as he can no longer pay installments.

“Rumours that he’s gone mad and has been seen walking naked are all lies. If we can get a lawyer who will sit down with my son and help him with what he’s gone through, we would appreciate that.”

The actor’s sister Khanyisile Mthembu adds that her brother has been telling her about the pain of being cancelled by the industry.

“My brother is multi-talented. He can write songs and can sing. He also writes films and TV dramas and he can act, but doors are closed for him. He quit his job at Uzalo because he felt he was earning peanuts. Quitting Uzalo came after he realised that his mental illness was becoming too much.”
