‘The River’ actor Cornet Mamabolo: ‘The role is distasteful for fans’

‘Skeem Saam’ actor Cornet Mamabolo, who exited ‘The River’ as serial killer Lerumo says he felt blessed to have told the dark story.

Skeem Saam actor Cornet Mamabolo, who exited The River this week as Lerumo says he felt blessed to have told an amazing yet dark story of the serial character.

The talented actor Cornet Mamabolo, who is popularly known for playing Thabo Maputla in Skeem Saam took to social media this week to reflect on his character as Lerumo in The River.   

Sunday World reports that the star said he felt blessed to have told the story and was happy to be a child again and bring the character to life.  

“Lerumo was that role that I knew I had to fall in love with in order for the audience to genuinely hate. It’s one of those roles that if the audience really loves you for it then it simply means you have done a bad job as an actor. It’s a role that is exciting for an actor but distasteful for the audience,” he wrote.  

The actor and businessman added he was also grateful to the production company, and the directors that helped him with choices for the role.  

He also thanked the actors from the telenovela The River that made it easy for him to understand the world of the show. 


It is unclear at this stage if the actor will now return to Skeem Saam after taking a break in October 2021 from the SABC1 soapie.   

The soapie revealed on social media that the actor took a break after his character got married to focus more on his insurance business venture.  

The actor Cornet Mamabolo, who took a break from Skeem Saam in 2021 reveals in an interview with Drum Magazine that returning to TV was not as easy as he imagined but he took the role because he won’t be around for too long.    

“It was tough but the cast made it easy, they are experienced and accommodative, the directors also managed to bring me into the world of the show and the relationship dynamics of the characters that has already been established. When I received the character brief, the demon in me woke up, you know the love of acting evoked”.
