The high-glam e.tv telenovela House of Zwide pulled out all the stops for its very own fashion show which was aired on Friday 21 October. The runway showdown between Funani Zwide (Vusi Kunene) and newcomer Alex Khadzi (Warren Masemole) coincided with the South African Fashion Week (SAFW) which took place from 20 to 22 October at the Mall of Africa, in Midrand.

Just to bring you up to speed before “showcasing” the creations which delivered the wow factor to Friday’s episode: The R100 million deal came to a close with arch-enemies Funani Zwide and Alex Khadzi forced to work together and split the money in half (R50 million each).

Both heavyweights showcased their creations in what has been termed one of the biggest onscreen rivalries in South African television ever.

And of course,  the new face of House of Zwide, Shoki (Shelate Sekhabi) did not let the opportunity go by to add some on-the-side spice to the fashion show…

Behind the scenes: Marianne Fassler, Black Coffee and other top SA designers

With House of Zwide featuring the designs of top South African designers — from Quiteria to Scalo, Marianne Fassler and Black Coffee — it’s of course no wonder that viewers have been glued to their TV screens since day one.

Long gone are the days when fashion-loving soapie lovers’ only option was to tune into the American soapies The Bold and The Beautiful for the Forrester clan’s never-ending saga of fashion drama and intrigue. House of Zwide has it all: Colourful characters, local fashion and the entertaining high drama of the behind-the-scenes world of the fashion industry.

To make the representation of the local fashion scene as authentic as possible, Bomb Productions executive producer Desiree Markgraaff told in the Sunday Tribune that the team consulted with industry leaders, including designers such as David Tlale, House of Ole, Palesa Mokubung, Ephraim Molingoana and fashion guru Felipe Mazibuko.

Saftas success for ‘House of Zwide’

With 4.2 million tuning in to watch the first episode of the telenovela in August 2021, House of Zwide has gone from strength to strength. The telenovela raked in four Craft Awards at the  South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) in September this year in the following categories:

  • Best Achievement in a TV Soap/Telenovela;
  • Best Achievement in Sound;
  • Best Achievement in Editing; and
  • Best Achievement in Cinematography.
