Actress Nomvelo Makhanya explains why she left ‘Scandal!’

Actress Nomvelo Makhanya, who exited ‘Scandal!’ as Lindiwe Ngema this week reveals why she had to leave the e.tv soapie.

The award-winning actress Nomvelo Makhanya, who played the fan-favourite character of Lindiwe Ngema in Scandal! for a decade bid farewell to the character on Thursday night’s episode, 10 November.

The 26-year-old actress Nomvelo Makhanya tells Daily Sun that she had a great time playing Lindiwe in the e.tv soapie Scandal!  

“Surely people didn’t expect me to stay in one space for more than 10 years, did they? I’m still very young. There are a lot of places and things I want to explore. Nothing but greener pastures.”  

“The past 10 years for me have been amazing. Scandal! gave me a platform to showcase my talent and I’ll forever be grateful. I had so much fun, and I learned a lot and had so much fun. I got to work with legends. It’s been nothing but a privilege.”

Makhanya recently received a SAFTA for Best Supporting Actress as Ntombi in a Netflix feature film I Am All Girls.  

She tells Daily Sun that it still feels surreal and exciting that she won the award.  

“It is still very surreal. But it was a very exciting time and a very validating moment.”  

When the actress is asked what are her plans after Scandal! she replies: “Just watch this space.”   

According to The Citizen, the actress Nomvelo Makhanya revealed on her live stream on her Instagram account that she was leaving the show for greener pastures but wouldn’t say exactly what that was.     

The publication adds that Makhanya wasn’t ready to exit as she had previously read her script and her departure is too emotional.     

The actress has appeared in stage plays such as The Bald Prima Donn, African Reflections, and Maybe This Time and also acted in TV shows such as Isibaya and Soul City, according to iHarare.
