Viewers of the SABC1 soapie Uzalo were surprised when Mphela announced that the talented actor Siyabonga Radebe is leaving the show after scoring the role of a charming but lethal criminal Vikizitha Magwaza back in March.

Radebe joined the eighth season with actors Thembi Nyandeni, and Omuhle Gela in the KwaMashu-set in the form of the Magwaza family.

Stained Glass TV executive producer Pepsi Pokane told Channel 24:

“We are excited for audiences to experience a reimagined Uzalo.”

“The production team promises a season of high-stakes drama, riveting storylines, creativity, and skillful production. The production has several new faces joining the show, and it is a great pleasure to work with this impressive talent.”

“We are confident that our viewers are eager to continue experiencing authentic stories that represent their everyday realities in a way that resonates with them.”

According to Channel24, the Magwaza family matriarch Njinji is played by former Isibaya actress Thembi Nyandeni, whose character is described as “a ruthless wolf in sheep’s clothing”.

Her daughter Nomaswazi Magwaza played by former Muvhango actress Omuhle Gela is described as “a beautiful, smart, and conniving woman that moves stealthily, much like her mother”.

Nomaswazi’s cousin Vikizitha Magwaza is described as “a charming and lethal criminal with his eyes fixed on Nkunzi’s throne while Simon Nsimbi (Ronald Mkhwanazi) the Magwaza’s right-hand man is described as a “voice of reason”.

Radebe’s character last appeared in Uzalo last week when he exposed his cousin for backstabbing the family and told his aunt Njinji to choose him over her.

It is unclear at this stage why the thespian has left the popular SABC1 soapie, which is currently the most-watched show in South Africa with 5.9 million viewers.
