KHANYA, FLORENCE AND MAPULA TO HEADLINE ‘UNMARRIED

Unmarried is switching things up for its third season with a new cast and a different theme. Actresses Khanya Mkangisa, who plays Akhona in The Queen and has had roles on other shows such as Rockville, will star in the new season. The former YoTV presenter will be joined by Florence Mokgatsi (Isibaya) and Mapula Mafole (Rhythm City) – who will also be starring on the series as a group of friends. The drama series is set to premiere on 8 April.

“As a channel we are proud to give our viewers stories that see their reality reflected on screen,” SowetanLIVE quoted Shirley Adonisi, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net, as saying.

THE SUPPORTING CAST

The three ladies will be joined by Kabelo Moalusi (The Throne and The Wife), Jesse Suntele (The Queen and Rhythm City) and Lulu Hela (The River and Is’thunzi).

Lulu Hela has a wealth of experience in the South African television industry that dates back to her role on Generations as Belinda Nhlapho. She is also the producer of award-winning telenovela, Gomora.

‘UNMARRIED’ STORYLINE

The new season will follow the three friends dealing with social media scrutiny, sexual liberation and polyamory in their 20s. This is a completely different direction from the first two seasons which saw Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo, Keke Mphuthi and Renate Stuurman balancing marriage, career and motherhood in their 30s – Mputhi was replaced by Lunathi Mampofu in season 2.

“With the new season of Unmarried, we represent and reflect the lives of young women in SA and what hustling means to them.”

– Adonis

“Building on the Unmarried brand yet bringing in a new cast, characters and storyline in each season is a bold and forward-thinking move as this builds brand affinity and longevity with our viewers,” Adonis added.
