Grammy-winning afrobeats star Burna Boy has officially released his sixth studio album, Love, Damini, featuring Mzansi’s very own Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Other stars who are marking New Music Friday include, R&B singer Brent Faiyaz and local musos Jeremy Loops, Madumane and Sha Sha.

BURNA BOY – ‘LOVE, DAMINI’

Burna Boy’s new album, Love, Damini, features UK rapper J Hus, J Balvin, Ed Sheeran and Popcaan. The 19-track album also features Burna Boy’s upbeat single, Last Last. Ed Sheeran’s feature on the album marks his second afrobeats collaboration.

BRENT FAIYAZ – ‘WASTELAND’

Known for his smooth vocals and heartbreak lyrics, Brent Faiyaz is back on the music scene with Wasteland, a 19-track album with a star-studded tracklist. The R&B star featured the likes of Drake, Alicia Keys and Tyler, the Creator.

JEREMY LOOPS – ‘HEARD YOU GOT LOVE’

Taking to Instagram on 2 June, Jeremy Loops described his new album, Heard You Got Love, as his “proudest body of work yet”. In a second Instagram post on 5 July, Loops said one of his favourite things about the album was the intricate artwork. The talented muso collaborated with Ed Sheeran on Better Together.

MADUMANE AND 031CHOPPA – ‘MESSIAH’

Local producer 031Choppa and amapiano star DJ Maphorisa, aka Madumane, teamed up to create the perfect amapiano and hip-hop fusion, Messiah. This comes after 031Choppa’s Shake Azul EP, released on 27 May. 

Messiah is a standout track on our New Music Friday list.

Amapiano star Sha Sha teamed up with local producer Soa Mattrix on her new single Ungowami ahead of her upcoming album, I Am Alive, set to be released later this year.

FIVIO FOREIGN AND THE KID LAROI – ‘PARIS TO TOKOYO’

Rappers Fivio Foreign and The Kid Laroi sampled Far East Movement and Ryan Tedder’s classic single Rocketeer for their new collaboration, Paris To Tokoyo. Both rappers bring some hard bars to the track. 

Paris To Tokoyo is a standout release on our New Music Friday list.
