Kofee Bean shines bright as Spotify’s Fresh Finds Africa artist

Ghanaian singer-songwriter Kofee Bean says she feels honoured to have been named Spotify’s second-ever Fresh Finds Africa artists.

On Friday 29 April, Spotify announced independent Ghanaian singer-songwriter Kofee Bean as the second-ever Fresh Finds Africa artist. Crafted by the Spotify music team, the Fresh Finds Africa monthly programme is part of Spotify’s monthly commitment to support the African music industry.

Hailing from Ghana, Patience Naa Oyo Titus-Glover, popularly known as Kofee Bean, is on a mission to cement herself within the alternative music space in Africa. She began singing and writings songs and poetry at seven years old before joining the Ghanian band, Made Africa as a singer. 

After leaving Made Africa, Kofee Bean formed her own live band which went on to perform at various events. 

Her music is inspired by R&B giants Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Sade and Asa. Kofee Bean creates her music using several elements from the different genres she grew up with. 

She released her single Breathing featuring Kiddblack in 2021 – which caught the ear of Spotify’s music editors.

Spotify’s head of music for Sub-Sahara Africa, Phiona Okumu, says the streaming service is continuously on the lookout for promising artists under Spotify’s different hubs. 

“We want to showcase and offer them social support to grow their music careers,” added Okumu. 

“Fresh Finds artists also get one-on-one training on the best practicies for using the Spotify platform and in-app.”

On being Spotify’s second-ever Fresh Finds artist, Kofee Bean said: “I feel honored and grateful to be viewed in such a light by Spotify, even at the beginning of my career and it’s definitely a confidence booster in my sound and my artistry and for people who love and are creating this sound as well.”

Across the globe, the performance of Fresh Finds artists has been incredible. Since its global launch in 2016, Fresh Finds has playlisted over 25 000 artists, with their monthly listenership growing by 108% within a month of being included in the playlists. 

“This is the type of growth that Fresh Finds Africa artists like Kofee Bean can expect,” said Phiona Okumu.
