WHO IS FIESTA BLACK?

Fiesta Black became a household name in the Mzansi entertainment industry after the release of Xigubu in 2013. After her success, Fiesta Black’s record label wanted her to continue making hits but sadly, she fell flat.

She released her debut album Queen Nakampe in 2016, but even then, things did not work out. At the time, the Orange Farm-based singer told Drum that she made mistakes in the past but she has since learned from them.

After earning R1 200 per gig, she realised that the “person” she worked with, was making more money than her.

“On top of that, I learned that I was not getting what was due to me in royalties and that made things even worse. I lost my cool, I started becoming paranoid about everyone around me.”

FIESTA BLACK AFTER ‘XIGUBU’

Fiesta Black appeared on MacG’s Podcast on Chill on 14 March to talk about her rollercoaster journey in the entertainment industry. The singer spoke on her relationship with DJ Ganyani and touched on the song that propelled her to stardom, Xigubu

Xigubu was trending two weeks ago on TikTok and this is like 10 years later. One of the reasons I’m here right now is I saw the sh*t trending like 10 years later and I’m sitting at home in my [shack].”

Fiesta Black also said she got roughly 30% ownership of the song instead of 50%. “The Xigubu scenario hurt me a lot,” she said.

She further touched on her gigs and noted that she did not have a set booking fee.

“Up until this day, I don’t recall me having a set booking fee for myself personally,” the singer then broke down in tears.

MacG invited Fiesta Black back to Podcast and Chill to share more of her story.
