DJ Ready D has been dubbed one of South Africa’s hip-hop pioneers. The Cape Town-based DJ continues to be a driving force in the genre and recently put his own touch on Goya Menor and Nektunez’s Ameno amapiano remix.

His version of the popular amapiano hit however did not land well with some people with one tweep saying he “got a massive headache” listening to it.

WHO IS DJ READY D?

Deon T Daniels aka DJ Ready D first fell in love with hip-hop as a young boy in the early 1980s. He was drawn to the turntables of his family’s hi-fi system and used it hone his DJing skills.

His rap group POC released the first-ever Afrikaans hip-hop song and together they secured Cape Town as the “birthplace” of SA hip-hop.

Since then, DJ Ready D has become one of South African hip-hop’s sharp minds who has taken the genre to new heights. He has won several international awards and bagged the South African DMC Championship (a competition where some of the world’s best DJs compete) four times.

He also played at Nelson Mandela’s presidential Inauguration in 1994 and is currently a radio host on Cape Town’s Goodhope FM.

DJ READY D’S TAKE ON ‘AMENO’ AMAPIANO REMIX

Being the talented turntablist that he is, DJ Ready D put his own spin on the popular Ameno amapiano remix. #amenoamapiano has amassed over 10 million views on TikTok.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday 2 January, the DJ said he wanted to put some “hot sauce” on the amapiano hit to “make it slap different”.

“Mixing, blending and being creative with various genres of music always gets me going.”
