The 64th annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday 3 April at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Hosted by South Africa-born comedian, Trevor Noah, the world’s best entertainers came together to celebrate the biggest night in music.
South African DJ, Black Coffee, won his first Grammy Award for his sixth studio album, Subconsciously. American duo Silk Sonic made up of Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak, won four awards for their smash hit, Leave the Door Open.

Black Coffee attended the Grammy Awards with his oldest son Esona Maphumulo and the two accepted the Best Dance/Electronic Album on stage together. In his acceptance speech, the Drive hitmaker thanked the featured artists on his album, Subconsciously including David Guetta and local R&B star Una Rams.
“I wanna thank my fans and people who follow what I do all over the world. Thank you so much for believing in me. I wanna thank my family, I wanna thank my children,” said the star DJ.
Silk Sonic was nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for their hit track, Leave the Door Open. The duo won all four awards and tied with songstress Jazmine Sullivan for Best R&B Performance. Sullivan won the award for her single Pick Up Your Feelings.
While accepting the Grammy for Record of the Year, Anderson Paak said: “We are really trying to remain humble at this point. But in the industry, we call that a clean sweep.”
