The inaugural South African Amapiano Awards took place at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday 23 October. The legal and financial drama surrounding the awards did not stop the event from taking place. Some of Mzansi’s biggest names in entertainment were present for the awards including the likes of Phil Mphela, Kamo Mphela, and Nota Baloyi.

SA AMAPIANO AWARDS HIGHLIGHTS 

Several of Mzansi’s celebs stepped onto the South African Amapiano Awards red carpet looking dashing. Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela wore a suit from Ephraim Molingoana’s fashion house Ephymol while DJ Tira kept it simple with an all-black look. 

Other celebs who attended the awards were actors Tumi Morake, Mpho Osei-Tutu, Kuhle Adams and Nota Baloyi to name a few. The awards were presented by Moshe Ndiki and Robot Boii and there were performances from Kamo Mphela, Sir Trill, Amaroto and Lady Du.

BOOHLE STUNS IN BOLD RED GOWN

Siyathandana songstress Boohle stole the show in a beautiful red gown. The 23-year-old walked away with two awards. She won awards for Best Amapiano Female Vocalist and for Best Amapiano Newcomer.

Taking to Instagram to celebrate she wrote: “I’m crying! angaz ngizenzeni God showed me his favour tonight, the love I received tonight Oh my God We did it guys! We did it! My son was there with me, my family was there with me which is so special to me. I thank God, I thank everyone who’s been with me throughout this journey to more!!”

  • Amapaino Album of the Year – De Mthuda Ace Of Spaces

It is reported that Song of the Year winners took home R50 000 while the rest of the winners took home R10 000.

The awards will be broadcast on SABC 1 but a date is yet to be announced.
