AFRIMA 2022: Mzansi’s Costa Titch leads pack of nominees

SA’s Costa Titch and Congolese artist Dadju both scored six nominations ahead of the 2022 AFRIMAs. See who else is nominated.

The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have announced the nominees for the 2022 edition of the awards, set to take place between 8 and 11 December. Leading the pack of nominees is South Africa’s genre-bending star, Costa Titch who scored six nominations. The rapper has tied with Congolese artist, Dadju.

AFRIMA NOMINEES ANNOUNCED 

This year, the AFRIMAs received a total of 9 067 entries, the highest number ever received. Artists in the West African region received a whopping 134 nominations while the Eastern African region scored 69 nominations. Following closely behind are Southern African artists with 68 nominations. 

Mzansi’s Costa Titch dominates the nominations list with six nods. The rapper scored nominations in the Breakout Artiste of the Year, Best Artiste, Duo or Group in Use of African Dance/Choreography categories. His amapiano single, Big Flexa, scored a Song of the Year nominations. 

Congolese star Dadju, who also scored six nominations, received nods for Artiste of the Year, Best African Act in the Diaspora and Song of the Year. 

ZAKES BANTWINI ALSO REPRESENTS MZANSI! 

Zakes Bantwini, who celebrated his first South African Music Awards (SAMA) win in August, will also be representing Mzansi at the AFRIMAs. The Osama hitmaker scored four AFRIMA nominations and is also nominated for Artiste of the Year and Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa. 

Adam Tiran, the panellist representing Southern African artists, said it was encouraging to see so many African artists scoring AFRICA nominations. 

“The future is bright for the continent,” said Tiran.
