MJ RODRIGUEZ WINS A GOLDEN GLOBE

In July 2021, MJ Rodriguez became the first transgender woman to be nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Emmy Awards. She received the nomination for her role as Blanca Rodriguez-Evangelista in Pose, but unfortunately, she did not win the award.

The 31-year-old actress captured the world’s attention again after she was awarded the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series at the 79th Golden Globe Awards. She beat out the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Elizabeth Moss and Uzo Aduba.

Celebrating her win in an Instagram post, Rodriguez thanked the Golden Globes for her “ birthday present”, as the talented actress celebrated her 31st birthday on 7 January.

RODRIGUEZ’ HEARTFELT ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

Shortly after celebrating her win, MJ Rodriguez went live on Instagram to share some heartfelt words about her Golden Globe Award.

“This is for the LGBTQIA, Black, Latina, Asian [communities]… the many multi beautiful colours of the rainbow around the world. This is not just for me, this is for y’all. This is the door that opens for y’all. Not me, for y’all.”

“There are gonna be so many young individuals… Young, talented, thriving, individuals that are going to be able to trail in and storm in through the door. This is for y’all.”
