‘HEARTSTOPPER’ PLOT

Heartstopper follows two British teenagers, Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Conner) who discover that their relationship is a little more than “just friends”. Together, Charlie and Nick navigate school and young love along with their friends.

While Charlie and Nick are figuring out their relationship, there are a few other things happening around them. Two teen girls, Darcy Olsson (Kizzy Edgell) and Tara Jones (Corinna Brown) are also navigating the ups and downs of their relationship and Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) has just come out as transgender and transferred to an all-girl school.

ALICE OSEMAN ON THE COMING-OF-AGE DRAMA

Speaking to CheatSheet, Alice Oseman said Heartstopper is inspired by her own life. The British author said she has also received advice about the series.

“I went to a single-sex grammar school in a conservative town in the south-east of England and the world of Heartstopper and the people in it are all inspired by what life was like there.”

“Research is important too – following people online, watching YouTube videos of people talking about their experiences, reading firsthand accounts and articles,” added Oseman.

“There’s so much information out there that can help you!”
