Dave Chappelle’s attacker was ‘triggered’ by LGBTQI+ jokes [watch]

‘I wanted Dave Chappelle to know it’s not a joke,’ said the comedian’s alleged attacker who identifies as a bisexual man.

American comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked during a comedy set at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on 3 May. In an interview with the New York Post, Isaiah Lee said he attacked Chappelle because he identifies as a bisexual man and he was triggered by the comedian’s LGBTQI+ jokes. He added that in future, the comedian should “run his material by people it could affect”.

DAVE CHAPPELLE ATTACKED DURING COMEDY SET 

Dave Chappelle was performing a set for the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival when Isaiah Lee ran on stage and tackled him to the ground. 

“Hollywood Bowl uniformed security officers who witnessed the incident, engaged the suspect and removed him from the victim and took him into custody,” read a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department as per The Hollywood Reporter

Videos of Lee attacking Chappelle went viral on social media.

ISAIAH LEE FELT ‘TRIGGERED’ BY DAVE CHAPPELLE

Isaiah Lee, who is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, told the New York Post that he thought he would have a “good time” at the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival but things quickly turned around after Chappelle made jokes about the LGBTQI+ community and homelessness.

“I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect,” said the 23-year-old. 

On the topic of Chappelle’s homelessness jokes, Lee said: “I’m also a single dad and my son is 5. It’s a struggle and I wanted Dave Chappelle to know it’s not a joke.”

LEE ON BEING ATTACKED BY THE SECURITY GUARDS

After Lee attacked Chappelle on stage, the Hollywood Bowl security guards grabbed him and dragged him to the back of the stage. 

He also claimed that one of the security guards left him with a broken arm and two black eyes. 

“They spat on me and twisted me as if on purpose.”
