IT IS WRITTEN: You don’t need to be good to be LOVED

You are beautiful, you are wonderful, you are loved, you are treasured, you are the most important thing to Him. Don’t you know?

This has become such a revelation to me over the years. In the world’s system, we tend to feel we have to earn love. If we could just be good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, we could be loved! We stress and strive and compete and complain – but still there is this nagging doubt:  “Am I good enough?”

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.”

Mark 10:18 (NIV)18

“We love because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:19 (NIV)19

GOD IS LOVE

I finally got to understand that I don’t have to perform to be loved! God loves us because HE IS LOVE! He loves us because it is who He is – not because of who/how we are!

It is so freeing to know that you can face any ugliness in your heart or in your head, because God will still love you anyway. It makes me think of these words of that old hymn: “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, Oh what a  foretaste of love divine”!

When you can grasp this blessed assurance that He is yours and you are His, it is so much easier to face fullness of who you really are. It enables you to bring it all before Him with a repentant heart, longing to change and realizing that He can help you do so.

REPENTANCE: A gift and not a curse!

I remember someone getting very cross with Angus Buchan one day when he had a massive call to repentance across our nation. She was deeply offended by this! I thought about her response, and it dawned on me that repentance is a GIFT and not a CURSE!

When you know that your Heavenly Father loves you simply because you are His, it is so deeply comforting to know you can come to Him for grace and mercy whenever you mess up. Whenever you see that your behaviour, attitude, or motive is contrary to His will and His word, you have the blessed assurance that if you bring it before Him in an attitude of repentance, He will show you grace.

GRACE: God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense!

The fact is, Christ paid the price for our sin. In a love response to Him, we desperately want to turn away from anything that displeases or hurts Him. Sometimes this can be a huge battle between our natural and spirit man, but God promises that “He will complete the good work that He has begun in us” (Philippians 1:6).

PRAYER

Oh Lord, thank you for the wonderful gift of repentance.

As we come before you with a humble heart, we ask that you cleanse us from all unrighteousness and do the work in our hearts that only you can do.

Thank you that we can love because you first loved us!

Amen.
