IT IS WRITTEN: The power of words

God made heaven and earth by uttering words. Jesus healed many people by simply saying “get up and go”. The weight of our words carry life or death – which side of the scale are you?

We all go through seasons of testing, trials, and deep heartache, but God says He wants to make us  like the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13).

The Lord’s desire is for us to walk in victory – not crushed under the heel of our invisible enemy. His word says that he has given us authority to trample on snakes and scorpions! (Luke 10:19).

WHAT ARE THE KEYS TO VICTORY?

Throughout scripture, we are reminded that God blesses those who trust, honor, and obey Him;  those whose lives are fully surrendered to Him. But what does that look like in our daily lives?

When you look at an iceberg, you are only seeing the tip of it. The largest part is hidden below the  surface, and if not navigated carefully, ships will be crushed by it.

Our words reveal the deep hidden thoughts and attitudes of our hearts. If we don’t get to the root  of our behavior by understanding our hidden motives, we can cause not only our own lives, but  also the lives of others to be shattered!

His word says, “out of the heart, man speaks” (Matthew 12:34).

TAMING THE TONGUE

We must never underestimate the power of the tongue! God created the entire universe simply through His declaration. We have been created in His image!

There are a multitude of scriptures warning us of the importance of our words.

“Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.”

Psalm 141:3 (NIV)

“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their  testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”

Revelation 12:11(NIV)

“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may be  blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which  you shine as lights in the world…”

Philippians 2: 14,15 (NIV)

“Consider ships as well. Although they are so large and driven by strong winds,  they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot is inclined. In the same way, the tongue  is a small part of the body, but it boasts of great things. Consider how small a spark sets a great  forest ablaze.”

James 3: 4,5 (NIV)

If we want the blessing of God, and the victory that is ours in Christ, we need to guard our mouths.

SOFTENING THE HEART

When we are in the company of a negative, embittered, victim spirit, we end up feeling drained.

On the other hand, those whose hearts and mouths are filled with faith, hope and love, leave us  feeling not only encouraged, but energized!

Worldly success does not equal prosperity. Regardless of being rich or powerful, our hearts can still  be hard or bitter. True prosperity is found in the SHALOM of God: hearts filled with joy, peace, and  love.

His Word commands us to walk in the light and to live as children of the light – because that is who  we are! (Ephesians 5:8; 1 John 1:7 and others)

Let us do the work needed to get to the root of our pain; unforgiveness; bitterness; hopelessness  etc. May our hearts become soft and pliable in His hands, so that our mouths overflow with His  mercy and grace.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our  knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

2 Peter 1: 3 (NIV)

The more you spend time in the word and in prayer, the more He changes you from within. Christ in you, the hope of glory! (Colossians 1:27)
