Actress and reality star Khanyi Mbau who leads the cast of The Wife season two chats about her character – Zandile – her on-screen husband Nkosana and joining the telenovela.
The show returned this morning (17 February) after a week-long hiatus.
KHANYI MBAU JOINS ‘THE WIFE’
Media personality and seaoned actress Khanyi Mbau has joined Mondli Makhoba, Bonko Khoza, and Mbali Mavimbela as Zandile in Showmax’s popular telenovela The Wife.
Season two revolves around Zandile who got released from prison by the Zulu brothers.
The brothers replace her with Lerato Mvelase’s character and bribe the prison guards to keep it under wraps.
When Mbau is asked which Zulu brother she thinks has the best swagger, she reveals in an interview with Sowetan that it’s Nkosana.
“I have to be biased and say it’s him. It’s the voice, man. Have you heard that guy’s voice?”

PLAYING ZANDILE THE RESOLUTE
The mother of one says the biggest challenge about playing Zandile in The Wife was staying true to her journey and not imposing anything that reflects Khanyi Mbau.
She adds in the interview that she learned that Love and sacrifice are an ingredient to triumph.
Mbau states that Zandile has an identity and a life that many can relate to in comparison with her previous characters.
Fans will see Mbau’s breasts in a love scene between her character and Nkosana.
She describes going nude on-screen as technical.
“We wanted it to read onscreen. I’m really comfortable in my skin.”
Fans already spotted tensions between Zandile and Hlomu as her children don’t recognise her.
Their father Nkosana told them that Zandile is dead when she went to prison and now ‘replaced’ her with Mbali Mavimbela’s character.
Zandile went to prison for twenty years for killing her mother and has now started a new life with a false identity.
