‘Isifiso’ actress Nelisa Mchunu: ‘People call me a murderer’

Former ‘Uzalo’ actress Nelisa Mchunu, who played a villain Bazothini in ‘Isifiso’ says she’s not the murderer she portrays on TV.

Talented actress Nelisa Mchunu, who played the villainous character Bazothini in Mzansi Magic’s Isifiso says fans of the telenovela are still calling her a murderer.

The former Uzalo actress Nelisa Mchunu’s character Bazothini killed her sister so she can marry her rich husband in Isifiso and gained popularity with viewers.   

Mchunu, who bagged her first TV villainous role on the show now tells Daily Sun that some viewers are still calling her a murderer on the streets.  

“This is what people have always done to me. Back when I was on Uzalo, people thought I was my character in real life.”  

“Funny enough, it isn’t that bad because although people call me a murderer, they actually loved Bazo. It’s crazy as people aren’t supposed to like a character like that. So, it’s not always a bad encounter with fans.”

The popular actress also tells Daily Sun that she enjoyed playing the villain character but it was crazy.  

“I won’t lie, she was an intense character. She went through so many different emotions throughout the season. It was fun and challenging. It was so much fun playing a killer.”  

Mchunu also compares her current role to her breakout role in SABC1’s soapie Uzalo as the fun-loving Fikile:  

“The way I acted was pretty much the same but obviously, I had to channel different things because the characters are different. That was the only change, channeling different energies.”  

She adds that she used the same mantra and the same way of getting into character.
