The #UncleVinnyChallenge has been trending on social media and has even made waves internationally, leaving many asking who is this “Uncle Vinny” and why is he trending?
WHO IS ‘UNCLE VINNY’?
Real name Kabelo Vincent Ndlovu, popularly known as Vinny, is a MTV Base VJ and social media sensation, as well as one of the biggest amapiano stars right now. He is only 19 years old and had just finished matric last year
“Uncle Vinny” is a jack of all trades in the entertainment industry. He is known for his dance moves which have been going viral. He is a former presenter on Hillbrow Radio Station and an event curator. He is also a content creator who has a following of 397 000 on Instagram and more than 90 000 followers on TikTok.
In an interview with Ms Cosmo and Scoop on Popcast, “Uncle Vinny” revealed that he already knew in Grade six that he wanted a career in the entertainment industry.
“I started doing theatre in Grade 4. I had the love of SA hip-hop before I was introduced to hip-hop. I’m more of a curious person. If I like something, I get to it fast. I just liked radio,” said Uncle Vinny.
“In Grade 7 we did this project at the Hillbrow Theatre. We had a frequency where only people at the flat would be able to listen to the radio. I tried radio in Grade 8 and they told me I was too young,” he added.
#UNCLEVINNYCHALLENGE
The #UncleVinnyChallenge is a new dance challenge inspired by “Uncle Vinny’s” amapiano dance moves. The challenge currently has 12.6 million views on TikTok.
Celebrities like Riky Rick have hopped on the challenge.
FAMOUS FRIENDS
His speedy climb up the ladder in the entertainment industry has been helped along by his crew of South African A-List celebrities.
“Uncle Vinny” had his famous friends join him to celebrate his 19th birthday a few weeks ago. Youth from around Braamfontein queued outside the Neighborhoods market for the birthday celebration.
The young event curator had a star-studded line-up, including Boity, Riky Rick and Major League. Bonang Matheba was among the guests. However, the event came under fire due to no covid-19 protocols being followed.
“ME AND AUNTY B LOOKING AT MY 19TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION ????❤️” he captioned the post.
Two of South African’s finest rappers, Nasty C and AKA, also feature on Uncle Vinny’s Instagram.
Controversial politician Julius Malema has also been seen rubbing shoulders with the young amapiano sensation.
