Twitter users have praised Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon after the first episode premiered on Sunday 21 August.

‘HOUSE OF THE DRAGON’ BECOMES HBO’S BEST LAUNCH

Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon became HBO’s best launch pulled in nearly 10 million viewers in the US for the first episode of the series, said WarnerMedia.

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The series follows the Targaryen family which are Daenerys and Jon Snow’s ancestors – through a civil war. The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

House of the Dragon’s premiere on Sunday 21 August drew in 9.98 million viewers across HBO’s platform in the US.

This made it the “largest audience for any new original series in the history of HBO”, the television network’s owner, WarnerMedia said in a statement.

The storyline is based on a civil war between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother, Aegon II. This war is to determine who will succeed their father, Viserys I, to the throne. House of the Dragon does not immediately jump into the war, but the events leading up to it.
