American actor Timothée Chalamet will be playing the role of fictional chocolatier Willy Wonka in an upcoming film titled Wonka. Chalamet is the third actor to play Willy Wonka after Gene Wilder’s portrayal of the character in 1971 and Johnny Depp’s in 2005. The Oscar-nominated actor shared a picture of himself dressed as Willy Wonka and used a line from Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory to caption his image.
TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET IN ‘WONKA’
Timothée Chalamet is best known for his roles in the award-winning film Call Me by Your Name and Lady Bird. The 25-year-old actor has bagged a new role, playing Willy Wonka in the forthcoming film titled Wonka.
According to Deadline, the film will follow a young Willy Wonka before he created the chocolate factory. Chalamet will also show off his singing and dancing skills for the first time. Wonka is set to be released in March 2023.
Wonka will be directed by British director Paul King who directed the animation Paddington in 2014. Wonka will also star Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colemon, Jim Carter and Rowan Atkinson who is popularly known for his role as Mr Bean.
FIRST LOOK AT TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET AS WILLY WONKA
Timothée Chalamet took to Instagram to share a first-look image of himself as Willy Wonka. He used an Oscar Wilde quote to caption the image. The line was also repeated by Gene Wilder in the 1971 version of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
“The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last…” wrote Chalamet.
Chalamet looked dashing in a brown top hat, burgundy coat, and a multicoloured scarf. He also shared an image of Willy Wonka’s cane with a tiny gift box on top of it.
‘DUNE’
Timothée Chalamet is the lead character in a new science-fiction film titled Dune. Chalamet stars in the film next to Hollywood stars Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Rebecca Furguson.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film is based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name and follows a young man, Paul Atreides (Chalamet) who is born into a great destiny beyond his understanding. Atrides must travel to a dangerous planet to ensure the safety of his family and his people.
Dune debuted on 3 September at the Venice Film Festival.
