Women on TikTok are revealing the sneaky ways their partners dodge domestic chores and help with parenting tasks – and they’re totally relatable!

The hashtag #weaponizedincompetence has gone viral on the video-sharing platform and it’s something women around the world can identify with.

WHAT IS WEAPONIZED INCOMPETENCE ?

You know that feeling when you’d rather do something yourself (because it is easier and quicker) than ask your spouse to do it – that’s exactly what we’re talking about!

Coined in 2007 by the Wall Street Journal, the term “weaponized or strategic incompetence” is the art of avoiding undesirable tasks by pretending to be unable to do them.

And if videos on TikTok are anything to go by, the behaviour is a common occurrence in most homes.

From simple tasks like asking hubby to watch the kids, take out the trash or even go shopping – women are expressing their frustration at how their partners not only make a complete stuff-up, but wrangle their way out of doing it ever again.

One TikToker explained the theory in a video that blew up on the social media platform.

“I never knew there was a term for it until TikTok, I just knew I hated seeing s*** like this. You know where the wife asks the husband to do a simple chore she usually does on a daily frickin basis. And he’s either obtuse about doing it the wrong way or he’s just completely negligent and half-a**ing the task.

“The thing that bothers me the most about weaponized incompetence, is not necessarily how it impacts the partner or spouse [it’s how it] impacts the kids and the overall family dynamic

“It shows kids that even though there are 2 parents in the home, it shows that only 1 is trustworthy and reliable. And it shows kids all the things they have to do to get out of things they don’t want to do. As well as what they should allow and do in their future relationships

Follow up videos from the couple’s joint TikTok account showed how she added the price of the individual items, the quantity she wanted and even the aisle her husband could find them in.

The woman then went a step further – drawing a “map” of the layout of the store, describing which aisles contain which items.
