Actor Loyiso MacDonald will be leaving the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela The Queen after five years of being on the show.

FAN FAVOURITE KAGISO KHOZA’S DEPARTURE

Loyiso MacDonald played the role of Kagiso Khoza which won him a South African Film and Television Award (Safta) for best supporting role in a telenovela. Kagiso Khoza,  affectionately known as ‘’Sgaqagaqa”, has been a firm fan favourite on the show since August 2016.

The first talk of the actor’s exit started on 16 May when entertainment reporter Kgopolo Mphela tweeted that MacDonald is done with his role and ready to move on.

“The dynamic within the Khoza house will now be strange since Goodness played by Zenande Mfenyane is back on the show and her presence is tied to Kagiso,” said Mphela on Twitter.

His last date on air has not yet been revealed, however, it will most likely be at the end of the current season. This means Kagiso Khoza is not likely to return for the sixth season.

Due to MacDonald’s exit, Connie Ferguson, Themba Ndaba, Zandile Msutwana and Sthembiso “SK” Khoza are the only original cast members left in the show.

LOYISO MACDONALD’S EXIT CONFIRMED

After a few days of speculation, a statement was released on 20 May, confirming the actor’s exit from The Queen.

“MacDonald has entertained our viewers over the past five seasons and over the years many of them have fallen in love with his character,” said director of local entertainment channels at M-Net, Nomsa Philiso, in a statement.

“As Mzansi Magic, we would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him well in his future plans,” she continued.

“It is always sad when a talent leaves a show. However, that is the nature of the business. It also means we are a platform that grows individuals to be more daring and more explorative,” she added.
