Afropop singer Zahara is finally controlling the narrative about her personal life with her very own reality TV series titled Zahara: As I Rise.

Having already let slip last year that she is shooting the show, on Tuesday, 17 January, the Loliwe hitmaker shared a snippet of what her fans can expect when the show airs.

According to her post on social media, the show will premiere on Saturday 4 February on SABC 1.

In the trailer, Zahara is seated with her friend and fellow musician Vusi Nova as well as Hush SA group member, Tsholofelo Ntuli when the Thandiwe hitmaker tells her she is growing. The three friends joke that when a woman is glowing, people think there’s a bun in the oven.

“People think they know me, but they don’t really know me. I want to show people my spiritual side, my family, my close friend, and who I am dating.

“I know people love Zahara and I want even the mama in the village who I have healed through my music to see how I live and how I think. It will be unscripted and show who I truly am. I am all about inspiring people and healing,” she told the publication at the time.

However, in October, two sources told City Press that the channel and producers were threatening to pull the plug on the show before it even aired.

Zahara was accused of having “diva tendencies”.

“They had to call a meeting with the SABC on Wednesday after she missed a shoot and asked the producers to come to her at a different location. She said she was visiting some guy in Katlehong and the film crew should follow her there if they wanted to film that day,” said the first source.

Another said: “She missed a flight back to Johannesburg because she’d had a quarrel with a member of her management team at the East London airport after we’d gone to her home to film her with her family.”

After the SABC allegedly threatened to not continue with the Destiny singer’s show, the source said that she started “behaving herself”.
