A podcast is a great way to engage with content while multitasking. Some podcasters are able to tackle different topics in one episode, while others have a niche. Topics can range from sports, pop culture, news and entertainment to motivational talks and technology.

Now that 2021 is over, you might be looking for new content in the new year. Here are five South African podcasts that are entertaining and will always leave you wanting more. 

1. ‘KIDS EAT TOAST SOMETIMES’

Kids East Toast Sometimes (KETS) is a weekly podcast hosted by Samuel Holmes and Chloë Melville that takes a comedic spin on current affairs. The hosts have tackled topics like the South African petrol price, elections, Formula 1 and Miss South Africa. 

They also have special guests once in a while. They’ve hosted Cape Town-based artist Nina Holmes, actress Cassidy Nicholson and marketing guru Zethu Gqola.

2. ‘CHICA TRAVEL WITH LELO’ 

Hosted by Lelo Boyana, Chica Travel with Lelo takes you on a journey of everything travel. Boyana speaks to industry experts and globetrotters, asking questions and dwelling over their previous travel experiences. 

Episodes are released every Monday and there is always a new destination to look forward to. Through her content, Boyana has taken fans to Ireland, Japan, Zanzibar and the Western Cape.

3. ‘IN THE RING WITH EUSEBIUS MCKAISER’

Political analyst and author Eusebius McKaiser’s podcast, In The Ring With Eusebius McKaiser, unpacks “uncomfortable topics that dominate public debate”. In The Ring With Eusebius McKaiser has covered the passing of former president FW De Klerk and Jacob Zuma’s imprisonment amongst others. McKaiser also narrated his battle with COVID-19.

4. ‘OUR LOVE JOURNEY WITH MPOOMY & BRENDAN’

True Crime South Africa shines the spotlight on solved and unsolved true crime cases in the country. It has covered the infamous Krugersdorp Killings, the Van Breda family murders in Stellenbosch and Mukosi Freddy Mulaudzi aka “The Limpopo Serial Killer”.
