Shaleen Surtie-Richards: Actress to make final movie appearance

Late actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards will make her final on-screen appearance in ‘Who’s My Daddy’, set to hit cinemas on 2 September.

Iconic actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards passed away on 7 June 2021 which left the local entertainment industry heartbroken. More than a year after her death, Surtie-Richards will make her final appearance on the big screen in Who’s My Daddy, set to premiere on Friday 2 September. This comes after she received a posthumous SAFTA nomination for her performance as Muriel Foster in Arendsvlei

SHALEEN SURTIE-RICHARDS’ DEATH 

According to Channel24, Shaleen Surtie-Richards was found dead in a Cape Town guesthouse after filming scenes for kykNet’s Arendsvlei. She was 66 at the time of her death. 

“It is surmised that she died peacefully in her sleep. There are no signs of trauma, of criminal activity or suicide, nor do we think it was COVID-related,” the actresses’ close friend Lizz Meiring told East Coast Radio

Surtie-Richards was granted a provincial funeral and was laid to rest at the Durbanville Memorial Park in Cape Town on 13 June 2021. 

SHALEEN SURTIE-RICHARDS TO MAKE FINAL APPEARANCE ON BIG SCREEN

Shaleen Surtie-Richards is set to make her final appearance on the big screen in Who’s My Daddy directed by Sans Moonsamy and David Kau. 

The film follows Prikesh Nair (played by Sans) who teams up with Alfie (played by Alfred Ntombela) and journalist Emma Wood (played by Nadia Jaftha) who travel across the country to find Prikesh’s long-lost father. Who’s My Daddy also stars Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Jason Goliath, Prev Reddy, Keru Kisten, Khanyi Mbau and more.

The film was set to be released in 2020 but was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Who’s My Daddy is set to premiere in cinemas on 2 September.

POSTHUMOUS SAFTA NOMINATION 

The nominees for the 16th annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) were announced on 14 July with Shaleen Surtie-Richards scoring a posthumous nomination for her role in Arendsvlei

The late actress is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Telenovela category alongside Zikhona Sodlaka, Charmaine Tintia and Mosthsidi Motsshwegwa. 


Surtie-Richards made her final appearance in Arendsvlei on 26 August 2021.
