Since the first episode of the new season of Real Housewives of Durban aired, South Africans have not stopped buzzing about a dinner hosted by the show’s newcomer, Thobile “MaKhumalo” Mseleku. All aspects of the dinner have been thoroughly discussed including the fact that Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco, the former wife of Jacob Zuma, kept speaking Zulu in front of the other English-speaking guests.

Netizens have since been left divided with many calling on white people and people from other races to learn how to speak African languages.

LaConco’s Zulu upsetsRHOD’ cast members AND viewers

In a recent episode of Real Housewives of Durban, MaKhumalo, the wife of businessman Musa Mseleku, hosted a black-tie dinner for her fellow cast members who also showed up with their husbands.

The dinner has been described as “extremely awkward” by viewers who discussed Nonku offending the other guest’s marriages by claiming that all men cheat.

Many of them also did not want to hear Musa speak about colonization or his decision to be a polygamist.

But one thing that seemed to get to most viewers was the fact that LaConco kept speaking in her home language, IsiZulu – especially since some of the guests couldn’t speak or understand the language.

Some interesting comments are made about LaConco

While some people complained about LaConco’s Zulu throughout the dinner, others said that the English-speaking guests should start learning more African languages – especially since they live around black people who speak African languages.

Here are some of their comments:

“Tweets of Black women chastising a Zulu woman for speaking isiZulu in KwaZulu. Some of yall spend your entire lives just imagining ways to please abelungu. Why cant they learn our languages? Niyagula. I hope LaConco continues speaking her African language in Africa. #RHODurban.”

“It’s etiquette and courtesy. There were non-Zulu-speaking people at the table, it’s being courteous more than anything.”

“Their need to forever make whites comfortable is pathetic.”
